INITIATIVES
MENSTRUAL EQUITY
Hey Black Girl! is committed to furthering menstrual equity by hosting educational workshops, donating menstrual cups to our community and supporting Black menstruators through our annual giveaway.
We have donated 120 free menstrual cups to the Black menstruators in the Greater Toronto Area. Menstrual cups are reusable, environmentally friendly, and are more cost-effective in the long term.
In partnership with Redy Club, we gifted one HBG member a year's worth of organic menstrual products and hosted an educational Instagram live session on the importance of organic-based menstrual products.
Through annual donations we want to increase that number to 5 HBG community members each year.
COVID-19 DRIVE
Our COVID-19 community drives aim to assist people experiencing homelessness that are unable to access sanitizing items due to local/global shutdowns. The pandemic made life very difficult for many who were in desperate need of economic help, especially in the colder months.
Our kits include:
-
Hand Sanitizer
-
Masks
-
Gloves
-
Sleeping bag
These kits were distributed to various shelters in the downtown area.
HBGIVING
Hey Black Girl! is committed to giving back to our community. Some of the initiatives we have launched include:
-
Makeup Giveaway - In collaboration with Shoppers Drug Mart we gifted makeup to three HBG community members as part of our holiday giveaway series.
-
Branding Discovery Session- In celebration of Black History Month, we offered Black entrepreneurs two free sessions with a branding and marketing coach. This was a great opportunity to learn new ways on how to grow their business.
-
Holiday Drive- We collected donations from our online community to donate to Sistering. Sistering is a multi-service agency offering low barrier practical and emotional support to women and trans people. Donations included: Winter coats, boots, gloves, new underwear and socks, menstrual products and toiletries.
